Spring Term Prayer Room Timetable

Class 11 had fun making a class stained glass window for our Caritas in Action afternoon based on ‘Dignity of Work’.

Throughout Advent in 2017 the GIFT Team held a weekly prayer group in the Prayer Room. The Jesse Tree is used during Advent to tell the story of the Bible up until the birth of Christ. The GIFT Team shared short stories related to the Jesse Tree and explained the meaning of the various symbols. Each day a symbolic decoration was added to the tree. Children from all year groups attended the prayer group each lunchtime and some classes used the Jesse Tree in their own class collective worships.

On Friday 15th December 2017 Mrs Kelly and the choir performed ‘Hosanna Rocks’ in church for pupils from school.  All who attended thoroughly enjoyed the performance, thank you Mrs Kelly and the choir for a lovely afternoon.

Nativity displays in the hall.

In December 2017, Class 13 celebrated the work they had completed with a class assembly.  The children’s new knowledge and understanding of the meaning of expectation and Advent, a time of joyful expectation of Christmas, the Word becoming a human person, Jesus was celebrated through their work.

Class 11 went to The Prayer Room in December 2017 for a whole class collective worship based on ‘Advent’. In our previous R.E. lesson, we worked in groups and produced prayers, reflections, songs and poems based on the scripture we have been studying. We shared these in our collective worship today.

The Nursey performed ‘The Nativity’ this year.

Reception 1 and Reception 2 performed ‘The Nativity’ this year.

Class 1 performed ‘Born in a Barn’ this year.  There’s a good deal of commotion in a Bethlehem stable when the animals realise that there’s a baby in the barn!  The cows, sheep, pigs, cat and cockerel all learn about their special guest from the donkey that brought the baby along as well as the guests that follow.

Class 2 performed ‘The Magical Christmas Jigsaw’ this year.  At a bustling market full of the joyful sounds of carol singers and cheeky market sellers, five excited children come across a very special stallholder who gives them a tatty old Christmas jigsaw in return for the promise that they will find time to complete it on Christmas Eve.

Class 3 performed ‘Children of the World’ this year.  The excited angels await the results of the lucky dip.  They are about to find out which special country they will visit in their mission to discover how children around the world celebrate Christmas.  This is where the adventure begins.

Class 4 performed ‘Little Donkey’s First Christmas’ this year.  Poor Little Donkey is alone and bored until two tired travellers came along and asked for help.  Little Donkey leads Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem but it has been a rather long time since he has been.  After several wrong turns they make it to Bethlehem where they find a place to stay.  Lots of visitors came and visit Little Donkey.

The GIFT Team visited St. Peter’s High School for a sharing of Advent ideas in December 2017. The morning was filled with activities relating to Advent and how we prepare for the coming of Jesus Christ. We got the opportunity to meet with other GIFT Chaplaincy Teams and share ideas. We then took part in a special Advent mass.

All Key Stage 2 pupils enjoyed listening to the choir on Friday 1st December in Church where they performed their Advent Service.

Our theme for Caritas in Action in Class 5 this term was all about ‘Stewardship’. Year 3 learned about Saint Francis and how he cared for the world and for animals. We thought about how we could care for the world and for animals.  We all contributed to create a life size Saint Francis and we made clay animals for him to look over.

Class 5 designed and made their own bookmarks in Religion using quotes from the Bible.

This term in R.E.  in Class 1 we have been learning about being a part of God’s family and baptism. We have spent some time creating prayers and discussing what happens throughout a baptism service. We also spend time singing and praying during our worship lessons.

In Religion, Class 7 is focusing on the topic “Called – Confirmation: a call to witness.” We have been studying David it Chosenand discussing what it means to be called by God. For our last Caritas in Action, we looked at Stewardship and how, as responsible stewards, we must take care of God’s planet and ensure there is enough resources for everyone.

In our Religion lessons in Class 8 we have been learning Caritas in our community.

Every month in Class 13 we take part in a class assembly to celebrate all we have learned in our Religion lessons.

We worked in pairs to produce a leaflet in our RE lessons in Class 9. Inside, we have outlined the different parts of the wedding ceremony and given a short explanation of what happens.

Our second CARITAS afternoon of the year in Class 9 involved us thinking about how we can become good stewards of God’s earth, our common home. More importantly, we began to think about why this is important and gathered a variety of actions that we can begin to take.

In our Caritas assembly this month we celebrated all we had learned in our Religion lessons.  Year 3 pupils were learning all about Stewardship, how all things are connected.  They learned how to look after God’s world and how to live in harmony with our world.  Year 4 pupils also studied Stewardship and the environment.  They learned about how we must share God’s precious resource of water and about pollution in our local area with a focus on looking after the air we breathe.  Year 5 pupils were learning all about being stewards of the earth and Year 6 pupils were learning about seeing God in creation and writing reflections and prayers to praise God.

All our Year 6 children are learning about commitment and vocations in our religion lessons.  The children met with Father Dever who told the children all about his journey in becoming a priest.  Father Dever explained to the children all about his calling, his education and his ordination and his journey to St Richard’s Church.  The children asked Father Dever questions about his role as our Parish Priest and Head of Governors of our school and learned a great deal about his life in our Parish.  Thank you Father Dever.

Caritas in Action is a cross-curricular RE scheme of work with the PSHE/Citizenship curriculum to help in the delivery of the Social Teaching of the Catholic Church which is based on our understanding of human life and dignity as people made in the image and likeness of God.  Click here to read all about Caritas Caritas in Action

Throughout October, the GIFT Team have been leading a daily prayer group for children across the whole school to celebrate the Month of the Holy Rosary. Each day, we discussed the Mysteries of the Rosary and their significance. Each member of the GIFT Team took it in turns to lead a decade of the Rosary each lunchtime. Lots of children gave up time in their lunch to attend the group, with many children attending the session everyday – thank you!

Class 2 celebrated Our Lady’s birthday

In their Religion lessons Class 10 learned all about the gifts God has given us
