During the Spring term every class in the school has been involved in our Belle Vue Heritage Project, which has not only fulfilled many curriculum requirements in History and Geography, but also widened their knowledge and appreciation of their local area and its history.

Early years and Key stage 1 have focussed on the zoo and circus. Nursery have been looking at zoo animals, past and present, and will be visiting the zoo in July. Classes 1-4 have taken part in circus workshops and researched the animals at Belle Vue.

Key Stage 2 have been involved in a variety of activities exploring Belle Vue and its history.

Class 5 and 6 have researched the fairground aspect of Belle Vue through art and sharing stories.

Class 7 and 8 have studied circus life, examined artefacts and will be participating in a learning walk.

Class 9 and 10 have been looking at the dancing and nightlife at Belle Vue, producing iPad presentations, designing posters, learning historical dances and achieving Arts Award.

Class 11 and 12 have developed and applied their map skills through looking at a range of maps and map features. Hands-on activities enabled the children to design, plot and create their own maps and models.

The Belle Vue Drama Club involved children from across Key Stage 2 who used their own knowledge to present a drama depicting all aspects of life at Belle Vue through the ages. They performed this during Manchester Histories Festival.

Examples of work from every year group were exhibited at the town hall as part of the Manchester Histories Festival, including two performances of the drama.

The whole project, which children and staff have enjoyed, has been filmed and documented by English Heritage as a best-practice example of cross-curricular learning.
